Robert Johnson va morir bastant jove, als 27 anys, i es "comenta" que va morir enverinat per el marit gelós d'alguna coneguda seva. També hi ha la llegenda de que el tio va vendre la seva ànima al diable a canvi de ser el millor "Blues-man" de la història.

Encara que... millor no creure's res de tot això, ja que s'ha de tenir en compte que ell vivia en l'Amèrica dels anys 30 i a més a més era negre... Es podria dir que no hi ha res documentat amb exactitud sobre la seva vida.
